Premarital Counseling
I help couples develop the skills they need to have a lasting, healthy, and happy marriage.
If you are looking at this page you more than likely aren’t struggling in big ways in your relationship. Maybe you have a few issues the two of you could use some help talking out like money or life goals. Or maybe there aren’t any real big issues and you are just exploring some ways to make sure that you and your soon to be spouse give your marriage the best possible chance of being successful. Either way, you’re in the right place.
In premarital couples counseling we will use the Sound Relationship House model to identify your strengths as a couple and to also identify some areas of your relationship that could you a little bit of strengthening. The Sound Relationship House is the Gottman framework for a healthy and lasting relationship.
Once we identify those areas that could use a little bit of support, the three of us will work on helping you to develop the skills that will sustain your relationship through the ups and downs of life.
Some things you might work on in premarital counseling: The importance of friendship in your relationship, how to nurture fondness and admiration and what that’s important, you learn what a bid is and how to identify and respond to your partner's bids. You’ll also learn about your conflict styles and patterns and learn conflict resolution and compromise skills. We will work together to help you and your partner develop shared meaning in your relationship and create rituals of connection that will help the two of you keep coming back to each other even when life gets difficult.
